College names include seven saints (Aidan, Chad, Cuthbert, John, Mary, and Hild & Bede jointly); also several local benefactors and university grandees.
Among the more memorable names are Collingwood, Ustinov and John Snow – but only Ustinov is named after who you might think it would be (Peter Ustinov was Chancellor of the university from 1992 until his death in 2004; the Graduate Society was renamed in his honour in 2003).
